This
type of 'conventional' hypnotherapy uses positive spoken suggestions
to treat minor conditions such as stopping smoking, losing weight,
fear of public speaking, fear of flying, driving test nerves and
other similar situations, often in one or two sessions.
If hypnotherapy or hypnosis is shown on tv or mentioned in the
media, this is usually the type of hypnotherapy that they are
referring to.
Suggestion Therapy, often known as clinical hypnosis, involves
relaxing into a very light hypnotic state and mentally rehearsing
future situations whilst listending to very positive suggestions
from the hypnotherapist (e.g. 'you will be proud of yourself
as a non smoker').
Sometimes one or two sessions of hypnotherapy is all people want
or need - just a little helping hand to get through some short-term
problem or simply focus on something for a short time.
Suggestion therapy can also be used in the treatment of children
for problems such as bedwetting, anxiety or school problems.
How it works
In a typical suggestion therapy session it is split into two parts
- a 'talky' bit at the beginning of the session, followed by a
relaxing hypnosis session at the end. At the beginning of the
session several psychological techniques are discussed (in plain
english) that will really help you to be more positive and achieve
your goals. I have found from experience that explaining how our
minds work for and against us has empowered clients to feel more
in control.
Topics discussed in this session include:
- Coue's Law
- Bernheim's rules of suggestion
- Conscious and unconscious mind - what's the difference?
- The difference between 'real time anxiety' and 'anticipatory anxiety' and which affects us more
- How we often give ourselves negative suggestions (without realising it)
- How to stop negative thinking FAST
- How to become more positive and more in control using simple but powerful techniques
- and much more...
