Children
are entirely suited towards hypnotherapy and often respond incredibly
well to treatment even in one relaxing hypnosis session. Hypnotherapy
is such a gentle treatment that it can be very helpful for nervous
children with problems and symptoms such as bedwetting, phobias
in children, exam worries or many other problems that kids may encounter
as they grow up.
At my
Cheltenham Hypnotherapy Clinic I see children
and young teenagers for hypnotherapy from about 7-17 years of age
usually for a single session of hypnotherapy called the
Blowaway
Technique.
Children under the age of 16 must always accompanied by a parent
or guardian (usually the one the child 'gets on with the most')
who is actively encouraged to participate in the session.
The 'Blowaway' technique for children
This single session hypnotherapy technique has been especially designed
by experts for use with children to help them resolve their anxiety.
The technique, utilising hypnosis, is aimed at removing obstacles
to the child's development, so that the child will progress to be
the best person they possibly can be.
The
Blowaway technique means that during a relaxing
therapy session the child is encouraged to take a deep breath and
'blow away' any negative emotions or 'bottled up' feelings...resulting
in both a reduction of anxiety or stress within the child and a
corresponding increase in self-esteem and confidence.
This single session non-talking therapy is often a fun,
interesting, informal and very liberating experience for both parent
and child!

What about very young children?
Although it is possible to see young children for therapy, for very
young children (e.g. 3 -7) I would recommend the parent purchasing
the book
'Stress Busting for Children' by Rita Sparkes,
available at Amazon.co.uk.
This wonderful little book, written by Rita - an experienced IAPH
therapist who specialises in treating children, is a 'home' version
of the above blowaway technique written down that the parents can
apply at home themselves.
The book has a chapter to be read at night for girls and a chapter
to be read for boys, and includes full instructions and tips for
use. Within the stories there are some actions that allow the child
to get rid of some of their anxieties/fears/worries.
